BIOGRAPHY:

“Volkskrant: “’Born to Make a Sound’ is a promising rock debut: beautiful roaring guitar sound, confident singing and songs that reveal a sense of melody. The best songs are up there with the Queens of the Stone Age, The Black Keys and the Flemish Triggerfinger, who took Colossa on tour as their support act.”

OOR: “Holland does not have an abundance of strong rock voices, but this is clearly one of them.”

Nu.nl: “Colossa do not obtrude themselves as the umpteenth promise, but flourish like a slowly blooming cactus. With a solid band sound, the smart production of Guido Aalbers, and the very pleasant voice of Remco Eijssen, Colossa’s debut is a promising one.

The roots of Colossa lie in Limburg, but the three band members work together in Utrecht and Sittard. Inspired by music of the Foo Fighters, Led Zeppelin and Danko Jones, the band wrote their first songs. After the production of a catchy EP in 2009, Colossa used their own resources to perform a large number of live shows at Dutch music venues. Shortly after that, the renowned Dutch label Goomah Music signed the band.

Still wet behind the ears, Colossa were voted 3FM’s ‘Serious Talent’, Popronde and 3voor12’s Hollandse Nieuwe. Not long after that, regional buddies The Mad Trist took the band along on their autumn tour as support act. The Belgian Triggerfinger and the English Band of Skulls appreciated Colossa’s music as well, and chose the band as their support act in 2010.

In summer 2010, Colossa turned to the Dutch producer Guido Aalbers to take the band to a higher level during the recording of their debut album “Born to Make a Sound”. At a remote location in Groningen, the band members, together with the producer, were able to get the right focus. Aalbers succeeded in capturing the depth of the songs, whereby a sincere, warm and clear sound can be heard in the recordings. The search for the band’s own sound was an important part of making their debut. A number of songs also show that friendship is important to the guys. Travelling back and forth between Limburg and the Randstad. Being there for each other in times of need. Being able to rely on the people around you. A number of the songs refer to the theme of true companionship.

The album was released on the weekend of January 29, 2010, with sold-out shows in de Nieuwe Nor in Heerlen, and Ekko in Utrecht. The album received unanimously enthusiastic reactions in the Dutch press. The 1st single ‘Darling I Want You’ was picked-up by 3FM. With the single ‘Gotta Do It All The Way’ the band performed on Dutch National TV for the first time, at ‘De Wereld Draait Door’, and released their first music video. The song ‘Wake Up’ was used in a trailer for the American TV show House M.D.

For Colossa, 2011 has been devoted to live shows, and preparations for a new album in 2012.
